National strike next Tuesday

LanguedocLiving, Feb 1

A general national strike by the CGT is planned for Tuesday 5 February.

The unions are calling on all “employees, agents, young people as well as retirees, and jobseekers” to strike and demonstrate on Tuesday. They are calling the movement "the social emergency".

The demands are numerous, in particular an increase in wages and a reform of taxation.

Several gilets jaunes leaders, as well as some political parties, have called to join the demonstrations.

Check here for updated details during the week, but so far the following are threatened:-

SNCF will be striking from Monday 4 February 8pm until Wednesday 6 February 8am. SNCF will probably not announce the disruption until Monday afternoon.

Schools and colleges could be affected, as the Sud Education and Snipp Fsu unions have called for a strike. You will need to check the individual schools for an up to date plan, because individual teachers and staff will decide whether or not to strike.

Health and social sector staff will be striking and the likelihood is that La Poste will also be on strike.

The employees of France Télévision have also been invited to take part in the strike.
