New video protection cameras for Montpellier in 2019

MidiLibre/Scoop, Feb 7

This Wednesday evening the city council at Montpellier voted unanimously (minus one abstention) for the installation of 16 new urban video surveillance cameras in 2019.

Lorraine Acquier, deputy delegate for security, said they would install them “to reinforce the efficiency of the PSQ (daily security police) in the Mosson sector, to reinforce the existing equipment in the sectors Antigone and avenue de Lodeve and, finally, on major axes.” These major axes include the Avenue de la Justice in Castelnau (two cameras) and the Place de la Voie Domitienne.

Since 2014, the number of cameras in Montpellier has doubled from 146 to 301. During 2018, 6,508 cases were processed, resulting in 4,238 interventions, 583 arrests and 593 requisitions of images by the police.
