Occitanie grape harvest should reach 14.9 million hectolitres

France 3/Scoop, Jul 23

After 2017, which had a particularly low grape harvest of 10.44 million hectolitres, 2018 is forecast for nearly 15 million hectolitres for the region.

In total for 2018, wine production is estimated at between 46 and 48 million hectolitres for the country, which will be 27% higher than in 2017, according to a first estimate from the Ministry of Agriculture. 2017 was the smallest harvest since 1945.

The recent hail storms, particularly in the Gers, could lower this estimate; and mildew is still a subject of concern for winemakers, as they cross their fingers for continued hot weather now.
