Occitanie prisons are full
At the end of 2017, there were 5,885 people in prison in Occitanie. Prison density is over 190% capacity in some prisons.
In Montauban in the Tarn-et-Garonne, prison density is higher than 150% as is Albi, and Seysses, near Toulouse.
Rodez in the Aveyron is 174% full.
In the prisons at Foix and Tarbes, the situation is even worse, with more than 190% capacity.
Emmanuel Macron was visiting Lot-et-Garonne this Tuesday. The president chose l'Ecole Nationale de l'Administration Pénitentiaire d'Agen to announce several measures, such as the end of very short sentences and the development of the electronic bracelet.
These measures have not convinced the UFAP-UNSA unions. “The electronic bracelet also has a cost in staffing, because it takes people to monitor them,” said Laurent Maffre, regional secretary UFAP-UNSA.
Emmanuel Macron also announced the creation of 7,000 additional prison places during his five-year tenure, without giving details of what, where and when.
