Police demonstrate in Agde and Montpellier

France 3/Scoop, Dec 19

Hérault police demonstrated in Agde on Wednesday, for better working conditions and remuneration.

After a gruelling month in which the police forces had to manage the gilets jaunes demonstrations, the police wanted to make their point on Wednesday.

The government reaffirmed on Wednesday its willingness to pay the 274 million euros owed to police officers for overtime accumulated for many years. “This payment will be effective according to a schedule that we will define, and we are discussing it with trade unions,” said Secretary of State for Interior Laurent Nuñez.

A spokesperson from the police union stressed that this promise by the government was not specific enough, and said "we will insist on the payment of our overtime and especially on the working conditions, which are difficult. We will never let go. All the unions have joined together to make themselves heard and the premium of 300 euros does not meet our expectations.”
