Police shoot man on A9
On Thursday evening at 19:50, a man was shot dead by a police officer on the A9.
The man was wanted for several traffic offences during the day, and at 19:50 police tried to stop the man at the toll at Gallargues-le-Montueux between Nimes and Montpellier. The man had committed several offences in the afternoon between Le Grau-du-Roi and St Laurent d’Aigouze.
The man aged between 35 and 40 and driving alone, refused to stop for the police. For reasons yet to be determined, a shot was fired into the car by a police officer, and several metres later the car stopped. The driver was dead at the wheel.
The police officer is now in custody and an investigation has been opened.
