Record cannabis seizure in Perpignan and Narbonne
More than five tons of cannabis, worth an estimated 42 million euros resale value, were seized in one week in mid-July during customs operations in southern France, including Narbonne and Perpignan, the Ministry of Action and Public Accounts said on Tuesday.
A total of 5.2 tons of cannabis were intercepted (3.9 tons of resin and 1.2 of grass) by customs officers during checks of several vehicles from Spain, and six people were arrested.
Much of the contraband was on the move from Spain to the Netherlands, when sniffer dogs caught several hauls of the drugs.
