Redevelopment of the place de la Comédie

MidiLibre/Scoop, Jan 7

Philippe Saurel wants to make the place de la Comédie "one of the largest pedestrian squares in Europe".

In an interview with the Midi Libre he said “A woman who comes home alone, late at night in the city centre, is not very comfortable. You know, the process of securing the centre also includes improvements. Our great plan for the redevelopment of the Esplanade-Triangle-Comédie has a budget of 100 million euros. Three teams of architects have been selected, and we are looking forward to seeing their good ideas emerge.”

His vision of Comédie is that it will be one of the largest pedestrian squares in Europe. “I want more security, make it easier to move around, more coherence for access to cultural and commercial buildings, and also change the pavement that still causes too many accidents.”

Saurel was anxious to say that changes don’t happen in 5 minutes. The timescales have not yet been defined.
