Robber sentenced to 20 years in prison

France 3/Scoop, Jun 14

Lionel Cardon was on trial on Thursday in Toulouse for a violent robbery.

The man was in custody and has been on hunger strike for several weeks, he now weighs a mere 40 kg. He refused to attend his court hearing on the grounds that he wasn’t well enough. The Advocate General was in favour of postponing the trial, but the judge refused. On hearing this news, the man’s lawyers refused to stay in court, and the trial took place without the accused or his lawyers.

The man was on trial for theft with violence and kidnapping in 2015 in Labarthe-sur-Lèze and Seysses.

In the 1980’s, Lionel Cardon, now 60 years old, was tried for the murder of a doctor couple in 1983 in Gironde and a biker who he pursued to Paris. He was freed in 2012, and was trying to open a boxing gym in Toulouse.

In August he fell in to his bad ways again, and abducted two jewellers and held up a post office near Toulouse.

He now faces 20 years in prison.
