Rumours of attempted kidnappings in Hérault

MidiLibre/Scoop, Jan 31

Rumours of attempted kidnappings in Hérault are circulating on Facebook.

Police say that they are not convinced that they have been real attempts.

On Tuesday, a message appeared on Facebook about attempted kidnappings at Lunel-Viel, Saint Christol and Marsillargues, Hérault, and it quickly went viral with more than 13,000 shares.

"Beware, several kidnapping attempts at Lunel-Viel, Saint Christol and Marsillargues, talk about it around you, do not let your children go home alone". This is essentially the subject of the message that has been circulating for a few days on Facebook.

Contacted by Midi Libre, the gendarmerie at Lunel said that there were no reports of attempted kidnappings or otherwise. The municipal police confirmed the same. Chief Inspector Thibaut Azaubert said “I can tell you that we have not conducted any vigilance campaign at a school exit or door-to-door to warn of any abduction attempts. The abduction facts stated on Facebook are not proven.”
