"Solidarity fridge" installed in Montpellier

MidiLibre/Scoop, Jul 4

A generous initiative was born a year ago in Paris and it has just arrived in Montpellier. It is the "solidarity fridge". A shopkeeper has installed a refrigerated cabinet in the street, which is open to anyone to deposit goods, and the needy can help themselves to the contents.

Seniors, families in difficulty and even young students help themselves, the principle being that both donors and receivers are anonymous.

The solidarity fridge currently serves a dozen needy people a day. Fish, meat and alcohol are prohibited.
