Student demonstrations in Montpellier, Nîmes and Béziers

France 3/Scoop, Dec 7

Nearly 500 high school students demonstrated in the streets of Béziers this Friday morning. They toured public schools in the city shouting slogans which were hostile to the government, they marched past the police station before stopping in front of the town hall.

In the city centre, the police were stationed in front of department stores, but the demonstration was less agitated than the day before.  Nevertheless a dozen young people were arrested, 5 remain in custody.

In Montpellier, the young protesters were marching, but not as many as in Béziers. Trash cans were set on fire in front of the Mermoz high school, and the traffic was blocked in places. Disturbances were also reported in Jules-Guesde and Jules-Ferry schools.

In Sète, high school students from Joliot-Curie burned a palm tree located near an electric transformer, according to France Blue Hérault.

In Nîmes, some demonstrations took place, but they were peaceful.
