The Catalans beat Leeds 33-20
The crowd were happy at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday after an exciting match against Leeds, and the Catalan Dragons, who are back in the saddle now, only one point from being in the Super 8.
After eighteen minutes they were 16-0 in the lead following tries from Benjamin Julien, Garcia and Mcllorum. The Catalans defended well and Leeds were sloppy, giving away penalties. However the home side became over enthusiastic and the good run came to an end with Moa yellow carded for a tackle off the ball on former Catalan player Ritchie Myler. Leeds scored a try but a drop goal by talented Tony Gigot meant a half time score of 17-4.
The situation soon changed to 17-14 after two tries by Leeds, plus a disallowed try for the Dragons. Mistakes by Leeds gave ground to the Catalans and a superb try by Gigot and soon after by Drinkwater put the score at 29-14.
Finally Leeds-born Jodie Broughton, man of the match last week, scored, and Dwyer scored for Leeds in the last minute to give a finishing result of 33-20.
The Dragons are showing well constructed play and good defence, an encouraging improvement.
Allez les Dragons.
