Toulouse pool officially named 72 years late

France 3/Scoop, Jun 17

Already well known in Toulouse, the Nakache pool was officially named on Friday in the presence of the entire family of the famous swimmer Alfred Nakache.

Since the opening in 1946, there has never been an official ceremony, until now.

The name has been on the front of the entrance to the pool and residents of Toulouse know the place, but no ceremony has ever been organised.

His descendants, particularly his niece Yvette Benayoun-Nakache, wanted to repair this oversight by organising an official ceremony.

This Saturday, the whole family of Alfred Nakache gathered together to officially announce the posthumous tribute to the world record swimmer, who was deported to Auschwitz during the war.
