Train strike will continue into July
Train worker union CGT Cheminots has announced that SNCF strikes are to continue into the summer, and they will offer even fewer trains than in the last three months.
Laurent Brun, CGT Cheminots general secretary had already suggested last week that more strikes were due in July and August, and even into September. He confirmed the strikes yesterday.
M. Brun denied claims that the strikes were planned to disrupt holiday makers, but went on to confirm “The [strike] calendar will not have the same structure [but] there will be fewer trains than in the past few months, while still allowing people to move around.”
Train workers unions have split however, with union UNSA declining to support the strike after the end of June, so there is a chink of light for Macron, who is placing his reputation on being able to break the unions.
