Tree blown onto 20,000 volt electricity line

Most of us felt the force of the winds on Thursday night and Friday morning. In Alès, Gard, a tree was uprooted by the wind and dropped onto a high voltage power line, causing it to fall to the ground.
The power line was holding 20,000 volts, and a forest fire from the sparks soon took hold. Firefighters were quick to arrive, and the fire was contained. Some residents of Alès and surrounding communes were without electricity for some time, and the RD143 was closed.
