Triple tragedy for woman in Trèbes
Martine Mazieres from Villedubert near Trèbes, has suffered a triple tragedy this year.
Her husband was the first person to be shot by the jihadist who ran amok in the Trebes supermarket earlier this year.
On Monday morning, her elderly parents were both washed away in the floods. Their house was just by the side of the Aude, and the waters had risen eight metres in five hours.
Marc Rofès, the mayor of Villedubert, said: “I naturally went to visit her and the first thing she said was that she felt that fate was against her…”
A neighbour said "I saw her on Monday morning, she was angry because she could not get any news from her parents. At that moment, she was simply worried. Who would have thought she would once again be confronted by mourning.”
Mairies, neighbours, and well-wishers are consolidating their help around the region, donating clothes, furniture, and temporary housing for all those affected. It’s going to take a long time for the poor victims to get back on their feet again.
