Tuna fishing boat on fire in Sète

France 3/Scoop, Aug 16

In the early hours of Thursday morning, firefighters were called out to the port at Sète to put out a fire on a tuna fishing boat on the Aspirant Herbert dock.

The fire started in the nets stored on the deck, and it spread to the deck machinery and the crane for lifting the net.

65 firefighters managed to contain the fire and stop it spreading to nearby boats. Teams from Agde, Sète, Frontignan, Gigean, Balaruc and Clermont, were all on site.

The fire was extinguished around 5am, and miraculously there is no damage to the inside of the boat or to the structure.

Just before the fire started, a small explosion was heard.  Authorities are investigating the possibility that the fire was started deliberately.
