Unions to strike over Macron's 'destruction'

LanguedocLiving, Sep 2

Unions have called for a general strike day on 9 October in protest at the “ideological policies” of Emmanuel Macron’s government.

The CGT and FO unions as well as two national student unions issued a joint statement criticising the “ideological policies targeting the destruction of our social model, favouring notably the explosion of inequality and the breaking of collective rights”.

Macron is trying to loosen French labour laws and reform the social security system, but the unions said that his policies would have an impact "once again on the weakest, the most insecure and most deprived".

It remains to be seen how widespread the strike will be on Tuesday 9 October.
