Urssaf claims €181 million from a restaurant owner!

La Dépêche/Scoop, Sep 4

A restaurant owner from Escalquens in Haute-Garonne has received a letter from Urssaf asking for 181 million euros.

The organisation claimed more than 181 million euros in social contributions reported La Depeche du Midi. ‘’ Unless I am mistaken, your bank has just told me that the August settlement of EUR 181 984 089 has been rejected,’’ the letter said.

The couple quickly realised that the amount was the beginning of their self-employment number. "It made us laugh! We did not worry at all. Even if we were millionaires we wouldn’t have been able to pay, we didn’t even bother to call Urssaf to explain, we were too busy laughing.”

Urssaf confirmed that this was a human error. The letter was in fact a standard reminder of the amount, where the boxes had been incorrectly filled in. The restauranteur is waiting for a new bill, and is expecting an apology.
