Vernière wins international water award
Vernière sparkling water, taken from the Haut-Languedoc Regional Park in Hérault, has been chosen as the best sparkling mineral water "of character". The water was honoured at the 1st International Gourmet Water Competition comparing 50 different water producers from 20 countries around the world.
After several weeks of tasting, the jury made up of experts, gastronomes, taste specialists and representatives of the culinary academy of France put their winners into six sections.
In the category, "Sparkles of character", Vernière received the gold medal.
Water from Les Aires
Vernière water is naturally drawn from the heart of the Haut Languedoc park in the commune of Les Aires, near Lamalou-les-Bains, 38km north of Béziers.
It was made famous thanks to Napoleon III in 1861, but has only been bottled and marketed since 1984.
One of our very own correspondents reported last year drinking a bottle of Vernière in Hiroshima, Japan. He sent us a photo of the label clearly showing the Vernière brand with Lamalou-les-Bains still printed in French in very small print. A genuine local export success story!
