Woman dies of meningitis in Montpellier

The Regional Health Agency has just confirmed that the cause of the death of a 20 year old woman in Montpellier was meningitis. This is the second case of the fatal infection in two weeks in the Hérault.

The young woman died at Lapeyronie University Hospital in Montpellier.

With head and neck pain, vomiting and patches on her body, the victim went to the emergency hospital in the middle of the night. She died a few hours later, on May 15th. It was meningococcal meningitis C.

According to our colleagues at Midi Libre, a dozen relatives of the young victim received a preventive treatment based on antibiotics. The ARS have confirm that no link was established between the two deaths.

Since 2010, vaccination has been recommended against this infection for children and young adults.
