2018 Château de la Devèze Monnier, AOP Languedoc Blanc- 9.50€
This comes from Terre des Deux Sources, an estate up in the hills near Ganges. It changed both hands and name last year, and the wines are now made by an energetic New Zealander, Kirsten Creasy, who arrived there just in time to help the previous owners with the harvest.
This white wine is predominantly Roussanne, with some Viognier, and Ugni Blanc.
Ugni blanc is allowed in appellations in the Languedoc if the vines were planted before planted before 1978, as is the case here. Ten percent of the blend has been in barrel, and there has been plenty of lees stirring. The wine has a very satisfying texture, with white blossom and a hint of peachy fruit and a long finish.
