Despite the new Trump taxes, which impose 25% customs duty on French wines imported into the United States, Occitanie winegrowers are launching a “reconquest” of the American market.

Sixty of them went to New York to meet the importers.

The winegrowers from ten Occitanie departments left for a “major seduction operation” earlier this week, with a few bottles in their suitcases.  The winegrowers from Aude, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Hérault, Lot, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pyrénées-Orientales, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne are looking to develop their exports to the United States.

The objective is the discovery of the American market, “I hope that it will create a positive reaction to orders” explained one of the winegrowers. “We chose the United States because they know Malbec. It is a big evolving market with lots of small niches which hopefully we can be part of.”
