This weekend is known as one of the black weekends of the holiday period. The first weekend of August is the busiest one of the year.
Friday was classed as orange in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Paca and Languedoc-Roussillon. Bison Futé recommended avoiding the A9 motorway in the direction of Orange-Narbonne from 8 am to 9 pm and from Narbonne to Montpellier from 10 am to 7 pm.
Saturday is the busiest day of the year, and is classed as black by Bison Futé. They recommend avoiding the A9 motorway from Orange to the Spanish border from 5 am to 5 pm, and from Narbonne to Montpellier from 8 am to 5 pm. Also avoid the A62 and A61 motorways in the direction of Bordeaux-Narbonne from 7 am to 4 pm.
Sunday is classed as orange, but it is still not recommended to take the A9 between Orange and Narbonne, from 8 am to 7 pm, in both directions.
If you have to travel any distance, be prepared for delays. Make sure you have enough water in the car, and good luck!
