Clos Maïa, 2017 le Petit Clos Maïa, IGP Pays de l’Hérault – 13€
Geraldine Laval had a broad experience of several different regions, before coming to the Languedoc, having worked previously in Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône Valley.
She discovered the Terrasses du Larzac while she was at Domaine du Pas de l’Escalette in Pegairolles. Then Oliver Jullien encouraged her to develop her own estate, and she found two hectares of high altitude vines in the village of Lauroux.
Le Petit Clos Maïa is a blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir and Carignan, blended at the harvest, and aged in concrete vats. The wine is quite sturdy, with a rustic note from the Carignan, but it also has fresh fruit, and promises well with a bit of bottle age.
