Conforama announce nine possible closures in Occitanie

Conforama, owned by the South African group Steinhoff, has announced that it is closing 32 stores in France, with a loss of 1,900 jobs.

There are nine shops on the list to close in Occitanie, with a potential loss of 600 Occitanie jobs.  The places on the list are Nîmes, Alès, Montpellier, Béziers, Narbonne, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Rodez and Millau.  Confirmation is expected soon.

“It’s a hard plan, we did not expect [the accounting irregularities] to do so much damage,” Financial Director Didier Pienne said.

Steinhoff is in great financial difficulty after the discovery of accounting irregularities that caused a liquidity crisis and the opening of global investigations at the end of 2017.
