Domaine Montrose, 2018 Rosé Prestige, Côtes de Thongue – 11.00€
Domaine de Montrose, a historic property outside Tourbes, has successfully converted from production of wine in bulk to bottled wine, and in the process made a speciality of rosé, thanks to a talented winemaker, Michel Gouec, who has worked in Provence.
They make three different rosés from their own vineyards. Of the three, the Rosé Prestige is my favourite. The entry level wine is quite fresh and light, while the 1701 has a little too much oak for my taste.
Rosé Prestige, a blend of Grenache Noir with 10% Vermentino, and just 5% oak ageing, has just the right balance. It is pale gris in colour, with a delicate nose, and good weight on the palate, with raspberry fruit, leaving an impression of elegant concentration.
