Eight Occitanie departments now declared in water crisis

The government has published a list of departments affected by drought, which can be seen on the Propluvia website.  In Occitanie, eight departments are listed as in crisis and three on “enhanced alert”.

Despite the latest rains, the situation is not improving on the drought front. In total, 81 departments are affected by water restriction, 38 of which are placed on red alert.  Of the 38 departments placed in crisis, eight are in Occitanie.

Orders were made and / or extended by the various prefectures to limit water consumption for both farmers and individuals.

The departments are:

Aude, Aveyron, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Lot, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne, which are all on red alert level.

Three are on enhanced alert in Occitanie, namely Gard, Hérault and Pyrénées-Orientales.  This means restrictions in the use of water, and also the timing of when you are allowed to water your garden. Washing your car is prohibited.
