Protesters under the Extinction Rebellion banner have blocked streets in Paris this week to denounce what they call the government’s “inaction” against climate change.

Several hundred people gathered in Place du Châtelet, and blocked the Pont au Change and the Quai de la Mégisserie in Paris.

The worldwide Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement is planning two weeks of nonviolent civil disobedience protests in total, with the initiative dubbed “Occupation pour la suite du monde (Occupation for the future of the world)”.

Protesters pitched tents and portable toilets, signalling their intention to stay.

Reports said that the atmosphere was calm and good-natured, but determined.
