During Saturday night, several cars were on fire in Alès, Gard, and about twenty people had to be evacuated.
The evacuation was because there was also a gas leak near the location of the burning cars.
It was a long night for the Gard firefighters. There was an emergency call at 4:30 am at the rue Blanqui. The emergency firefighters arrived to find three cars burning.
The fire required the intervention of 26 firefighters, and things could have gone badly wrong, on the discovery of a gas leak near the fire.
As a precautionary measure, about 20 residents had to be evacuated in the middle of the night. The fire was quickly controlled and the gas leak was resolved.
The inhabitants were soon able to return home.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
