A fire broke out early on Monday in the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier.
Shortly before 7:00 am on Monday, a fire broke out in the cellars of the 1893 café building and the La Gazette newspaper building on the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier. About fifty firefighters from the Hérault went to the site to try to control the fire which quickly spread to the dwellings.
The fire invaded the entire building. Two people were slightly overcome by smoke. A man in his fifties, suffering from asthma, was taken to the Lapeyronie hospital in Montpellier. The second victim was treated on the spot by relief workers.
