Firefighter imprisoned for starting 13 fires

Florensac fire station

A volunteer Hérault firefighter from Florensac barracks has been indicted and detained for causing 13 fires.

He is accused of starting fires in Florensac and Adge between 2017 and 2019.

Psychiatric expertise was employed to try to determine his motives. The suspect has been indicted for “destruction by fire … that can cause harm to people”. He has no criminal record but he is liable to 15 years in prison if he is found guilty. This case is not the first of its kind in Hérault where other firefighters have in the past been prosecuted for similar acts, for example, in May this year.
