The first snowflakes fell on Mount Aigoual in the Gard yesterday. It’s looking good for ski-lovers, with only a few weeks to go before the opening of the first ski resorts from 30 November.
A white blanket covered the peaks of Mount Aigoual on Wednesday, and the Prat Peyrot ski resort is due to open on 15 December, two months earlier than last year.
On the side of the Pyrénées-Orientales, the first snow fell in early September. Some stations such as Font-Romeu and Les Angles have set their opening dates as 30 November, then Cambre d’Aze and Bloquère on 6 December and Porte Puymorens on 14 December.
The Puyvalador station should open at the end of November. It has been closed for two years because of serious financial difficulties, but it was since taken over by an investor from Carcassonne.
