After ten years of losses, the sanctuary at Lourdes is finally out of the red.
Since 2016 there has been a 9 percent reduction in payroll, and 15 percent reduction in operating expenses.
The year 2018 ended with a positive operating result of 200,000 euros.
Lourdes also benefited from an increased attendance, with a total of 1.2 million visitors in 2018, half of them in organised pilgrimages.
Revenues increased by over a million euros, with the pilgrims’ contributions going up from € 1 to € 2.50, and the creation of the “chapels of light” near the cave, spaces in which pilgrims can place their candles.
