A Béziers man will be tried this week for throwing his dog into the Canal du Midi.
47-year-old Agathois is due in the Béziers Criminal Court this week. He is suspected of having tied up and thrown his dog Daisy into the Canal du Midi.
The alleged incident occurred on 29 June 2018. Walkers discovered a dog tied up on the banks of the Canal du Midi in Agde. On their approach to the dog, a man suddenly appeared to reassure the walkers that he would take the dog to the vet.
Except he didn’t.
A few days later, the dog was brought to the vet on 5 July in a sorry state, but the vet managed to save it.
The owner of the dog admitted to the police that he had wanted to kill the dog several times.
The dog is now with an Association for badly treated dogs, and they have brought a case against the owner.
The owner could get up to two years imprisonment and 30,000 euros fine.
