More than 200 hectares burned in the east of the Hérault, and fire fighters were out in force all night near Galargues and Beaulieu.
Four Canadair water planes made numerous journeys, taking thousands of litres of water out of the sea near La Grande Motte, right in front of tourists.
The Beaulieu town hall opened the school to support possible evacuations that ultimately did not need to take place.
Fortunately, there were no casualties or homes damaged but numbers of animals – bulls, horses, donkeys – had to be evacuated from the surrounding areas.
Elsewhere firefighters had to deal with several smaller fire simultaneously, especially in the west of the department, in Béziers, Lézignan, Marseillan and Villeveyrac.
