A man living in Nîmes was arrested and charged with planning a terrorist attack.
The 33 year old man wasn’t known to the police. Bomb making materials were found in his house, but police say that it wasn’t clear where his planned attack was going to be.
“This is the first attack foiled this year,” a source close to the investigation said. “The investigation started when police saw on social media an attempt by a man in the Nîmes area with Islamist leanings trying to procure a weapon.”
The man was charged with “associating with terrorist criminals” and placed in custody.
Along with a pipe with explosives, several videos were seized including one in which the man pledges allegiance to self-proclaimed Isis “caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi with the organisation’s black flag in the background.
