On Thursday, a dozen environmental professionals from Port Camargue, Corsica and Var, participated in a training exercise in Grau-du-Roi, Gard.
It’s an emergency. 600,000 tonnes of plastics are being released into the Mediterranean each year. The EcoOcéan Institute of Montpellier, the international organisation Meadsealitter and other partners, have joined forces to try to better measure the real impact of plastic pollution.
The idea is to set up an analysis protocol with a European-wide aim.
The advantage of this protocol is that they all use the same way to collect data. That way, regions’ data can be collated and analysed to compare to other regions, and seasons.
Greece, Italy and Spain are already carrying out this environmental project.
