Roads closed and no power as Gloria hits Occitanie

Storm Gloria hit Occitanie on Monday night, in particularly Pyrénées-Orientales, where strong winds up to 110 km/h were recorded, 1.5 metres of snow, and heavy rain up to 200mm fell.  1,500 households were without power.

The A9 motorway was closed on Tuesday, including between France and Spain from Perpignan-Nord. The RD914 between Cerbère and Banyuls was also shut, as was the RN 116.

SNCF said train services were disrupted between Perpignan and Narbonne, and Perpignan and Cerbère.

This video from the Vermillion coast shows the sea coming up to the houses on the coast.

Potential avalanches and flash floods have been forecast.

Rain and snow is expected to continue across the region, reaching what was the Languedoc region by Thursday 23 January.
