Simon Leccia was mayor of Baillargues, Hérault for 24 years, from 1977 to 2001. On Friday he passed away after a two year illness.
Born on December 2, 1940, Simon Leccia grew up in Marseille before settling in the Montpellier region in 1970. An industrial designer by training, he was elected mayor of Baillargues in 1977 and served four terms as first magistrate, until 2001.
During these 24 years, he worked in particular for culture and schools, with the creation of the MJC, Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture, the music school, and the birth of a library that became a media library.
A great lover of song and gospel, he was a member of several choirs. He was also a boules player and appreciated the conviviality of card games. Lover of nature and the countryside, he had a real passion for flowers, especially hydrangeas which he cultivated with passion and success.
A final tribute will be paid to him on Wednesday, February 12, at 4pm, at the Grammont funeral centre.
