In Béziers, Jeanne and Pascale offer a meal in their restaurant for as little as €3.
The restaurant “Comme à la maison” opened its doors a week ago in Béziers. It is an association restaurant based on donations and solidarity. It offers a menu for a few euros, and it’s all down to the energy, enthusiasm and generosity of two friends.
Jeanne, 58 and Pascale, 61 met a few years ago when they were working together. They immediately liked each other and remained friends. Today, while Jeanne lives off her disabled allowance and Pascale from an active solidarity income (RSA), they embarked on a culinary adventure: a restaurant where meals are served at €3.
The’ restaurant is located in the Gambetta district in Béziers on l’avenue Albert-1e.
Jeanne is in the kitchen and Pascale is doing service. Every midday, the two women offer a unique starter-main-dessert menu accompanied with a very small bill between €3 and €5.
To run their associative restaurant, Jeanne and Pascale rely on solidarity: a friend lends a car, another comes to help voluntarily, and small traders offer them food. Amine Birjmel is a fruit and vegetable seller, he donates regularly.
“It’s thanks to those people with a big heart”
“It’s thanks to those people with a big heart that we can make this work” said Jeanne. “We are so grateful for all the help we get.”
The association is also looking for donations of dairy products, meat and a freezer.
To benefit from the €3 meals, you need to join the association (€5 per trimester). Non-members pay €5 per meal. For more information call 07 49 02 96 51.
