Spectator hurt in Lamalou mountain rally

A woman who was in a car parked on the roadside on the route of the Lamalou-les-Bains car rally was injured in a crash.

At about 15h45 on Saturday afternoon, in the commune of Rosis above Lamalou, one of the race cars left the road.

The woman’s car was in an area prohibited to the public.

The pregnant spectator, who suffered a serious injury to her leg, was airlifted to safety by firefighters.

[An airlift was likely to have been the only safe way to get her out. The roads were closed from 7am to 8pm on Saturday, causing some local residents to face a 20km detour over the snowy and icy Espinouse to reach the Orb valley. Ed]
