On Tuesday afternoon, at about 2.45pm, a dramatic traffic accident occurred on the road between Lunel and La Grande-Motte.
A small car and a transit van collided head-on. The passenger of the Peugeot, aged 85, living in Lunel, was killed instantly.
The driver was evacuated by helicopter to the hospital of Montpellier suffering from multiple fractures. As for the driver of the van, he escaped with a slight hand injury.
The D61 linking Lunel La Grande-Motte, was closed in both directions for several hours. It was re-opened at 5pm.
Gard: car plunges into canal, driver dies
A 24 year-old woman from Grau-du-Roi died after her car came to rest in a canal alongside the RD 979 between Le Grau-du-Roi and Aigues-Mortes.
It was at about 7.30am this Tuesday, July 28, that her car was found partially submerged in one of the canals that line the road. Firefighters immediately intervened but unfortunately could only report the driver’s death.
The prosecutor of Nîmes has requested an autopsy of the body, to help better understand what could have happened.
