This Sunday, two women drowned in the sea at Canet-en-Roussillon, Pyrénées-Orientales.
The tragic accident occurred at 9am. Three women were swimming 100m from the beach, and were surprised by a strong current as they swam. Two of them, aged 80 and 81, were swept away with the current, and they sadly drowned.
Firefighters picked up the three swimmers, and despite attempts to resuscitate them, two of them died.
The third person was transported to the Perpignan Hospital.
