Villa Blanche Terret Blanc – 8.00€
Laurent Calmel is a very talented winemaker, producing a wide range of wines from all over the Languedoc. He chooses parcels of vines and works closely with wine growers in the various appellations, and only fairly recently acquired his own vineyards at Domaine la Madone in the small village of Montirat near Carcassonne.
I was treated to an extensive tasting from which I would happily recommend most of the wines – see my blog for more details, but the first very wine in our tasting hit the spot. Terret Blanc is one of the old grape varieties of the Languedoc that is beginning to make something of a come back. It was originally used by Noilly Prat for their base wine for the vermouth. In Laurent’s hands it has refreshing acidity and fresh herbal fruit on both nose and palate and it would make a thirst-quenching aperitif or go brilliantly with some seafood.
